Pepsi twist was originaly released as Pepsi Light which was cola and lemon flavor with 50% fewer calories.
It was soon replaced with a diet version of the same lemon-flavoured cola name in the 1970s and 1980s in the
United States. Originaly the lemon-flavored was a necessety to overpower the aftertaste
of the artificial sweetener. When a different chemical became more widely available, the lemon flavoring
was removed from the newly developed Diet Pepsi Light and it was discontinued. This caused the invention of pepsi twist.
